P.Eng licensure in New Brunswick
How to Get Your P.Eng in New Brunswick (APEGNB)
Graduates of a CEAB-accredited engineering degree register first as a Member-in-Training (MIT) with APEGNB, which you can do as soon as you finish all degree courses. You then build 48 months of acceptable engineering experience, document it through Competency-Based Assessment, and pass the national NPPE to be granted the P.Eng licence.

The licensing exam
The national NPPE is required. If you have already passed it through another Canadian regulator, you are exempt from writing it again.
Experience requirement
48 months of acceptable engineering experience attested by a supervising P.Eng. APEGNB uses Competency-Based Assessment: a self-assessment of competencies, validator (supervisor) review, then evaluation by independent professional assessors.

How long it takes
Most candidates reach P.Eng in roughly four to five years, driven by the 48-month experience requirement. You can register as an MIT immediately after finishing your degree courses and write the NPPE during the experience period.
Continuing professional development
APEGNB requires CPD for all professional members. Mandatory minimums that cannot be deferred are 2 Professional Development Hours per year in Ethical Practice Learning and 1 per year in Regulatory Learning, alongside other categories. Members-in-Training and retired members with no employment income are exempt.
References and validators
Experience is documented through CBA validators rather than traditional references. Validators must have first-hand knowledge of the work; a supervising P.Eng attests to the experience claimed.
