How EGBC assesses competencies
EGBC assesses P.Eng applicants in British Columbia through its Competency-Based Assessment: 34 competencies across 7 categories, drawn from the same Engineers Canada national framework used across most of the country. You need to meet a minimum rating in every category, not just an overall pass, so a category you have quietly under-documented can hold up an otherwise strong application.

Is squared.engineering affiliated with EGBC?
No. squared.engineering is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Engineers and Geoscientists BC. It mirrors EGBC's published competency categories so your prep work lines up with what EGBC reviews, but EGBC does not review, approve, or receive anything from this app.
How is this different from EGBC's own portal?
EGBC's portal is where you file your official application, and it is the only submission that counts. squared.engineering is where you do the work beforehand: logging experience as it happens, mapping it to competencies, and drafting narratives, so that what you eventually paste into EGBC's portal is already organized and evidenced.
Can I use this if I am not yet registered with EGBC?
Yes. Many engineers start logging experience and drafting competency narratives before they formally register as an Engineer-in-Training. Registering with EGBC early is still worth doing, but you can begin building your record here regardless of where you are in that process.
